Woolworths has announced it will phase out free single-use plastic bags in supermarkets across the country, according to the ABC.
South Australian and Tasmanian stores have already stopped providing plastic bags due to state bans, and Queensland is set to follow in 2018.
The decision from Woolworths means that supermarkets in all other states will also stop providing free plastic bags over the next 12 months.
They currently give out 3.2 billion plastic bags a year.
Woolworths will instead sell durable, re-usable plastic bags for 15 cents.
