A woman from Perth is lucky to have all her fingers after she was bitten by a shark in Dugong Bay.

Melissa Brunning was feeding Tawny sharks when the normally ‘placid’ shark took a swipe at her finger!

Unlike her friends before her, Melissa mistakenly hand-fed the shark instead of presenting the piece of fish down in front of her.

Melissa sustained a a torn ligament and feature, and had to wait to be properly treated once she got back to Perth.

When she returned, Melissa’s bite had become so badly infected that she needed an operation.

Melissa has made it adamant that she was in the wrong, not the shark, telling Sunday Night: “This is not a shark attack… I’m not a shark victim. I have full respect for sharks, I think they’re incredible. I’ve always had the opinion that when you’re in the water, they’re top of the food chain, it’s their domain.”
