The footy finals and spring drinks on the way, it's set to be a boozy few weeks ahead.

However, mums and dads are being urged to consider their drinking habits in front of their kids as Drinkwise launch a new one-million-dollar campaign encouraging parents to reflect on their behaviours at home.

"20 per cent of parents still don't think that how they drink in front of their children will influence their drinking behaviours later in life," Doctor Andrew Rochford told the Hit Newsroom.

"So it's really important for everyone to understand that if you are going to drink in front of your children, that you display a positive role model.

"They need to start a conversation with their children about alcohol because you are setting them up to be good decision makers later in life."

According to Drinkwise, it's all about being mindful of how your behaviour and relationship towards alcohol comes across to the kids.

"We're not saying for parents not to drink, but what we are saying is if they choose to drink in front of their kids, to ensure that it's in a responsible and moderate manner," Drinkwise CEO Simon Strahan said.

"Then if kids do see them drink, they understand that there's a right way to do it."
