Thousands Of Human Teeth Have Been Found Underneath The Melbourne CBD

Thousands of human teeth have been found under Melbourne’s CBD.

The teeth were found during an archeological dig underneath Swanston St – and it’s believed they came from a dentist and surgeon who used to work next door to the iconic young and Jackson pub in the late 1800s.

Most of the teeth are adult teeth with some signs of decay – they were found throughout the property and in an iron plumbing pipe – leading to the assumption the teeth were either thrown into the hard or down the train.

More than half a million artefacts have already been dug up as part of the Metro Tunnel Project. The public will soon be able to view the items, with a collection of artefacts going on display at the project's visitor centre in September.
