A woman who tried to put $2381 AUD of shopping through the self check out for less than $5 has been arrested.

The Sebastian Daily reports 25-year-old Cheyenne Amber Wast was arrested at a Walmart in Vero Beach, Florida, after she removed the packaging from several video game controllers and a computer and affixed clearance tags to them to fool the self-check out.

Working alongside her mother, the woman was caught by security staff and on surveillance cameras.

She told the River County’s Sheriff’s Office she was just trying to do something nice for her husband.

“I am just trying to get gifts for my son that I cannot afford. The computer is for my husband since he just got me a Coach purse, I figured he deserved something nice as well,” Cheyenne West told the deputy.
