The 'free bag' promotion finishes at midnight tonight, with Coles customers now to be charged 15c per plastic bag.

This comes after a few backflips, with the bag ban introduced in July, with fees then waived during an extended grace period.

Coles has always maintained that complimentary bags were an interim measure to help customers make the transition to reusable bags, and complimentary bags will no longer be offered after Wednesday 29 August. If customers forget to bring their own bags, Coles has a range of options available, including the 15c Better Bag, which is thicker and more durable than single use plastic bags and can be used multiple times. When customers have finished with the Better Bag, it can be recycled through the REDcycle bins available at all Coles supermarkets. There is also a range of Community Bags available in stores. These durable, multi-use bags have been designed by school children across Australia and a portion of sales will be donated to our community partners– Clean Up Australia, Little Athletics Australia, SecondBite and Guide Dogs Australia. The range includes a shoulder bag, a chiller bag, a tote and a jute bag.
