Rescuers have resumed a rescue operation for a third day to free four remaining boys and their soccer coach trapped in a cave in northern Thailand.

Four more of the boys were carried on stretchers out of the cave on Monday, bringing to eight the total number brought out so far after two rescues in successive days.

A crack team of foreign divers - including some Australians - and Thai Navy SEALs guided the boys on the way out from where they have been trapped for more than a fortnight.

Now 19 divers have re-entered the cave to bring the final four and their coach to safety. They are expected to return later tonight.
