Coles is facing a bit of backlash, with some shoppers upset about a new plastic toy promotion.

Customers are able to collect miniature versions of common everyday items for every $30 spent, which kids can play with inside a plastic display package.

While some shoppers expressed excitement about the promotion for their kids, others had an issue with the amount of plastic used for this promotion - especially so soon after the plastic bag ban.

Thanks for getting in touch, Jenny! Please be advised the collector case is an optional additional purchase. The idea behind Little Shop is that customers can keep and collect them rather than throw them out. When customers are at the supermarket they have a choice as to whether they would like to receive a mini collectable or not. The Little Shop campaign only runs for a limited time and customers are able to recycle the wrappers at their nearest store through our in-store REDCycle program. For Coles Online deliveries, mini collectable packaging can be returned to the driver, and recycled through our REDCycle program. However we certainly appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with us, and we'll pass this feedback on to our Marketing and Sustainability Teams for their consideration for future promotions.
