Want another reason to beg your loved ones for a puppy this Christmas?
A Swedish study has shown that dog owners live longer than those without.
BBC News reports the study, which included a sizable 3.4 million Swedes looked at registers of people aged 40-80 and then compared those to dog ownership figures.
They found those with dogs had a lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease – partly due to the extra exercise and partly due to how they affect their owners microbiome – basically the bacteria they are exposed to.
The study’s author told the BBC:Dog ownership has many benefits, and we may now be able to count better heart health as one of them. However, as many dog owners may agree, the main reason for owning a dog is the sheer joy.
Go pet your puppy people!
