Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has announced changes to ministerial standards following a week of heavy scrutiny of deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce and his personal life.
"I think we know that the real issue is the terrible hurt and humiliation that Barnaby, by his conduct, has visited upon his wife, Natalie, and their daughters and, indeed, his new partner," Mr Turnbull said.
"Barnaby has made a shocking error of judgment."
Changes introduced by Mr Turnbull include banning sexual relations with staff.
"I don't care if they are married or single, they must not have sexual relations with staff," he said.
"That is the standard I am setting as Prime Minister of Australia today."
Mr Joyce has been under immense pressure this week due to revelation he had an affair with a colleague, who is now pregnant with his child.
