Fall-out continues after this morning's leadership challenge, with Peter Dutton announcing that he is stepping down after the failed attempt.

Turnbull won the Liberal Party vote 48 - 35 against Dutton after the vote was called just after 9am.

Dutton has since announced that he will step down as Home Affairs and Immigration Minister.

He will now sit on the backbench, alongside Tony Abbott and Barnaby Joyce.
