No, Christmas isn’t coming early, and yes, you will be seeing your neighbourhood decorated with fairy lights.
This week, across the country we will receive the forms asking us whether we support marriage equality.
Ahead of the Federal Government’s postal survey, Steve Spencer from Sydney decided to make a bold statement out the front of his house and he strung fairy lights to spell out the word “yes”.
Naturally, the people of Australia have followed in Steve’s footsteps and they have started the #putoutyourfairylights campaign.
Steve told news.com.au, “I’m encouraging people to put out their fairy lights so that our night times are full of support and love for the LGBTIQ community, who face increased homophobia during this postal survey.”
Adding, “Whether you spell out the word ‘yes’ or simply put your fairly lights out front of your house, you can show that you stand in solidarity with your LGBTQI family members, friends and the wider community.”
The lights have been popping up all over the place and we just love this idea.
Have you put out your fairy lights?
