Pauline Hanson has said she’d like to give a nine-year-old who protested the national anthem a “kick up the backside”.

The Queensland senator has uploaded a Facebook video in response to Harper Nielsen, a Brisbane school girl who is facing disciplinary action after she protested singing the national anthem.

“I’ve got no problems with standing your ground,” Hanson said in the video, adding: “we’re talking about a child who has no idea what is history, what is happening”.

Nielsen said she believed the national anthem did not fairly represent Indigenous Australians.

Queensland Department of Education and Training said in a statement, Kenmore South has been in contact with Nielsen’s parents and the school allows students who do not wish to sing the anthem to stand outside.
