Worrying statistics have been released regarding young people and mental health, with one in three millennials experiencing high levels of psychological pain.

The data has also shown that rates of distress are significantly higher among young women.

The research, released by the National Youth Mental Health Foundation, has shown that the figures have tripled in the last decade.

Headspace CEO Jason Trethowan, told Hit that this could be due to the pressures young people are facing.

"Some of the key factors could include that they are having less sleep, are being less active and eating less healthy than previous generations," he said.
