A NSW woman has died on a Qantas flight from London to Sydney, with the plane having to divert to Adelaide for several hours.

Flight QF2 was on its second leg of the journey from Singapore when the plane had to make a stopover in Adelaide at 3am on Friday.

"Our crew did everything they could, including helping perform CPR with a doctor who was on board, but unfortunately the passenger has passed away," a Qantas spokeswoman said.

"Our thoughts are with the passenger's family."

South Australian police will prepare a report for the coroner.

The flight was delayed by three hours, with the plane landing in Sydney at 8.15am.
