New data has shown that more than half of airline cabin crew surveyed have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace.

A report by the Transport Workers' Union (TWU) showed that four out of five crew members experienced sexual harassment from colleagues.

Three in five staff experienced it from passengers.

The report detailed an array of behaviour, ranging from inappropriate touching, indecent exposure, sexualised comments and assault.

A former flight attendant, Hannah Rowland, spoke to the Hit newsroom about her experiences, claiming that she was touched inappropriately while working on a flight from Sydney to Melbourne in 2015.

Ms Rowland has called for all airlines to take sexual harassment more seriously.

"Why can't you have a group of people trained in handling these situations?" Ms Rowland said.

"And alongside that, implement some harsher penalties for these perpetrators so maybe they do step back and say 'you know what, maybe I'm not going to get away with this anymore'."
