Shocking research has revealed the majority of Aussies don't believe texting behind the wheel is dangerous, despite stats showing you're six times more likely to be involved in a car crash.

Instead, findings from CARRS-Q show people have a higher fear of FOMO (fear of missing out), than a fear of dying.

Researchers found female drivers are the most frequent users of phones behind the wheel, and those who do it have a negative attitude towards safety. While the most experienced drivers are the least likely to engage is distracted driving.

Driver distraction is one of the five leading causes of death and injury on Australian roads, with road safety experts calling on the government to tackle the problem through shock-factor advertisement and a heavier education push.
