Australians are encouraged to check their strawberries after what’s believed to be a copycat planted metal rods in strawberries in Queensland.

The incident is the fifth discovery of its kind since Tuesday. The needle was found in a strawberry punnet purchased at Coles Gatton today. Police believe the incident is a copycat.

Post

The contaminated punnets were purchased in Kirkwood in Gladstone, at the Strathpine Centre north of Brisbane, at Yarram in Victoria's Gippsland region, and at Sebastopol, a southern suburb of Ballarat, also in Victoria.

The two brands affected by the original incident, Berry Obsession and Berrylicious, came from the same farm.

Post

Police are checking every step of the production chain, and they say strawberries purchased from Thursday are safe.

Health authorities are telling people to ditch any affected berries bought between September 5-8, or cut them open to make sure they are safe to eat.

If you have any affected strawberries contact Policelink on 131 444. If you have information to provide to investigators contact on 1800 333 000.
