If you’ve been downing low-carb beers in hopes it’s a healthier choice – think again.

The Cancer Council of Victoria has found low-carb beers andregular beers have similar levels of carbohydrates.

A typical lager or ale has around 1.4 grams of carbohydrates per 100ml.

Meanwhile a “low carb” Pure Blonde has 0.5 grams per 100lm and a “lower carb” Carlton Dry has 1.9 grams.

The Cancer Council is calling on the Federal Government to make nutrition labelling mandatory on all alcohol products so people can make informed choices.
