If you’ve noticed a stack of emails about privacy and digital rights in your inbox, you’re not alone.
The emails are actually a last minute plea from companies to allow them to collect data ahead of strict privacy regulations due to be introduced this weekend.
The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, will be introduced this Saturday and it’s described to give consumers significantly more rights about what companies can collect about them.
This includes the right to demand your personal information be deleted, the right to object to your information being processed and to be able to access all the information a company has stored about you.
Companies will also have to receive informed consent before they are able to collect information about consumers.
