If you do your online banking on your phone, it might be worth checking that the correct app has been downloaded.

This comes after reports that fake Commbank and ANZ banking apps have been found on the Google Play store, leaving customers susceptible to potentially malicious activity.

According to the Age, the apps went undetected for several weeks, with credit card details and banking credentials exposed.

It is understood that the apps were downloaded more than 1,000 times before Google was made aware a fortnight ago.

Google uses an automatic verification system to ensure the authenticity of its apps.

Any ANZ customers should contact their bank on 1800 033 844 immediately if they believe they have been using the wrong app.

CBA customers should contact 13 2221 if they have similar concerns, and all users are encouraged to change their passwords and pins if they believe their data could be compromised.
