Chocolate restaurant chain Max Brenner has gone into voluntary administration The Sydney Morning Herald reports.

Max Brenner has 37 locations across Australia and reportedly appointed an administrator on Sunday.

Stores will continue business as usual however, the future of the chain is unclear.

McGrathNicol, the administrator, hasn't been drawn on what debts the business has but last year, an Australian Financial Review article cited sources who claimed the chain owed $50 million to local lenders.
