A study has shown that Australian nursing homes are spending just $6 a day to feed residents.
Research from Bond University's Cherie Hugo has shown that $6.08 is allocated for a full day of meals, while jails spend $8.25 and the average Aussie forks out $14 on food per day.
The Australian Medical Association (AMA) has deemed these findings "disgraceful and appalling".
“My children’s guinea pigs get fresh ingredients and more money spent on them,’’ AMA President Michael Gannon said, reports the Courier-Mail.
“It’s a national disgrace the way we treat our aged.”
According to Nine News, the budget for nursing homes was cut by 30 per cent for each resident in 2017.
