We’re one step closer to a male contraceptive pill thanks to new funding for Aussie scientists.
Monash scientists are developing a pill which blocks the transport of sperm – without the harsh side effects of earlier trials.
“The way it works it is stops sperm from moving from where it’s normally stored, to where it needs to go to be ejaculated,” Dr Sab Ventura, from Monash’s Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences explained.
He said the drug might also increase the user’s libido – and that he believed women would trust their partners to take the drug.
“Recently there’s a lot of social science research that suggests women are happy for their partners to be in control of contraception and they would trust their partners.”
