Travel lovers are being warned not to fall for a scam email that looks like it’s from Virgin Australia.

A message, which has the airline’s logo on it, asks the recipient to fill in a short survey to be in the running for a $1000 flight voucher.

A spokeswoman for Virgin Australia confirmed to news.com.au this email is a scam and definitely not a Virgin Australia promotion.

Scamwatch has some simple advice to keep people safe from scams:

  • Do not click on any links or attachments from emails that appear to be from your bank or other organisations asking for you to update your details. Just delete them.
  • Google the name or exact wording of the email to see if you can find details of the scam online.
  • Look for the secure symbol. Secure websites can be identified by the use of 'https:' rather than 'http:' at the start of the internet address, or a closed padlock or unbroken key icon at the bottom right corner of your browser window. Legitimate websites that ask you to enter confidential information are generally encrypted to protect your details.
  • Never provide your personal, credit card or online account details if you receive a call claiming to be from your bank or any other organisation. Instead, ask for their name and contact number and make an independent check with the organisation in question before calling back.
