A former Tasmanian Cricket Australia employee has taken the body to Fair Work Australia saying she was sacked for expressing her views on abortion.

The Age reports Angela Williamson was working as Cricket Tasmania’s government relations and infrastructure manager. But she was sacked 18 months into the role after she tweeted about the Tasmanian Government’s policy on abortion.

She also claims a senior member of the Tasmanian government shared details of Williamson’s own abortion to Cricket Tasmania.

Williamson told The Age she was told tweeting about her experience “damaged her relationship with the government”.

“I was in shock trying to understand the situation I’d found myself in and how publicly expressing my political opinion in a tweet had led to this situation at work.”

In the tweets she declared the lack of options for women to access legal abortion in Tasmania “a disgrace”.

She later called a decision by the Tasmanian government not to restore abortion services in public hospitals “a disgrace”.
