NSW SES personnel have advised Settlement Point, Hibbard Drive and North Shore residents to prepare for minor flooding later this week, with unusually high tides predicted for the Hastings River between tomorrow and Sunday.

Advice from the Bureau of Meteorology suggests the Hastings River at Settlement Point may reach minor flood levels during the morning high tides.

The SES says the Hastings may reach minor flood levels for around an hour during the high tides, though Mid North Coast Region Controller Tony Day says they are not expecting any major issues - such as property damage or road closures - to result from this.

"We are asking residents in these areas to exercise caution during the morning high tides and avoid driving through flood water.”
Mr Day sayd.

“This event was a timely reminder of the risk of riverine flooding that does exist in the area and provides an opportunity for residents and businesses to develop or review flood emergency plans and to put together a home emergency kit."

Information on how to prepare for floods can be obtained by visiting the NSW SES website (www.ses.nsw.gov.au).

Mr Day also recommends nearby locals monitor the Port Macquarie-Hastings Council website for any changes to ferry service brought on by the high water levels.
