Port Macquarie has been labelled a classic holiday destination by travel website Wotif, in it's inaugural town of the year awards.
The widely used website rated Port Mac as the 7th best town in the country when it comes to tourism.
The awards are based on towns which have recorded increased interest and demand over the past twelve months, as well as affordability and availability of accommodation.
Kirsty La Bruniy from Wotif says the awards uncover some of the local hotspots that should be on everyone's travel list.
“This Australia Day, we want to bring to the forefront the versatile personalities of our top towns,” She said.
“Every town has a story to tell about what makes them famous and worthy of being awarded one of the nation’s best."
