Port Macquarie-Hasting Council's Acting Mayor is seeking to make the job permanent.

Cr Lisa Intemann has put her hand up for the job, ahead of July 29's mayoral by-election.

She has been filling the interim position since former mayor Peter Besseling's shock resignation to take up the role of General Manager with Sancrox shipyard, Birdon.

Cr Intemann says her 17 years on council and a strong performance in recent weeks put her in good stead for the mayorship.

She has previously had unsuccessful campaigns for the job, polling second with 22.53% of the vote in 2012.

It brings the current number of candidates for the by-election up to four.

Cr Rob Turner and Cr Sharon Griffiths are also in the race, while 2016 candidate Peta Pinson is again seeking out the mayorship.

More to come.
