New Year’s Eve means one thing – fireworks!
Melbourne always puts on a huge show when it comes to fireworks displays, but where should you go for the best views?
There are two official early evening fireworks displays taking place at Yarra Park next to the MCG and Footscray Park on Ballarat Road. These events are perfect for families, with the fireworks set to start at 9.30pm.
If you’re heading into the city, the official midnight live sites are the place to go. They offer great views plus free music, special effects, food outlets and toilet facilities.
Official live sites around the CBD:
- Flagstaff Gardens
- Treasury Gardens
- Kings Domain
Public transport is the best way to get into the city!
Flinders Street Station and Southern Cross Station will be open all night, with train services running to a normal Saturday timetable with additional special services operating. Trams will run to a Saturday timetable with additional services on some routes. Metropolitan bus services will run to a normal weekend timetable.
If you’d prefer to watch the fireworks from a distance, any spots around Melbourne that have a clear view of the city skyline should give you a great view of the show. This includes local parks and elevated areas in our suburbs.
