Victorians should be wary of possible scammers trying to take advantage of the Bourke St tragedy.
Fraudsters are reportedly trying to dupe the public – claiming to be collecting money for the Bourke St fund.
A woman called 3AW to say she was nearly scammed over the phone.
The woman said she received a call from a man who said he was from the City of Melbourne and asked for her bank and credit card details – but he hung up when she questioned the called.
"I said, 'well I'm going to ring up and check'. And he said, 'you can check'. And I said, 'this call is being taped',"
The private number then hung up on her.
