Vegan protestors have stormed a Melbourne steak house – chanting at diners as they ate their meals.

35 protestors from Direct Action Melbourne and Melbourne Cow Save marched into King Street restaurant, Rare Steakhouse, shouting into a megaphone on Saturday evening.

Footage of the protest shows the protestors holding signs with graphic photos of slaughterhouses and slogans.

“This is what happened to your steak, this is what happened before their flesh ended up on your plate,” a protestor is heard yelling.

Rare Steakhouse's media and marketing manager, Chrissy Symeonakis told The Age, the protestors stormed the restaurant at around 6.30pm on Saturday.

"Our senior staff members identified who they thought were the ringleaders of the group and approached them and asked them to please leave because they were obviously unwelcome and entered the restaurant with the purpose of disrupting the peace," she said.

"When they refused to leave, the police were called."

The group posted the video on Facebook explaining:

"In order to create change in our society, we must challenge current belief systems and force people to take a side; oppression or justice, cruelty or compassion. There is no humane way to kill someone who does not want to die."
