A teenage boy has been hit by a car and killed while riding a skateboard to school in Melbourne.
The boy died at the scene on a residential street in Brookfield about 8.30am on Tuesday, police said.
Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer said the boy's parents were at the scene of the accident.
"How they'll cope with that, no one knows," he told 3AW radio.
The death is the second on Victorian roads in nine hours.
A motorcyclist appeared to lose control and crash into the back of a car just before midnight in Taylors Lakes.
The three occupants of the car were not hurt.
Victoria's provisional road toll for 2017 sits at 43, which is 29 fewer than the same time last year.
