The Tullamarine widening project has cut times from airport to the city almost in half.

The $1.3 billion project to widen the Tullamarine Freeway is almost completed.

Now VicRoads data shows motorist can complete the trop from the Bolte Bridge to the Airport in just 16 minutes – compared to the 29 minutes it used to take in peak hour rush.

Average peak-hour speeds have also increased from just 41km/h to 74km/h.

The project will be finished by the end of August and the speed limit will then be increased from 80km/hr to 100km/hr in some sections of the freeway.
