Swords, Crossbows And Ammunition Surrendered In Gun Amnesty

More than 750 guns have been returned in Victoria during the first month of the national firearms amnesty.

The grand total of 751 turned in firearms left Superintendent Paul Millett of the Licensing and Regulation Division pleased at the notion of a safer state.

"We are seeing people with unregistered firearms from deceased estates, those who have been given firearms by friends and relatives as well as existing licence holders all surrendering unwanted and unregistered firearms," Millett said on Friday.

Victorian police said a number of other items such as swords, crossbows and ammunition had also been surrendered to licensed firearms dealers.
