Two police officers have escaped injury, after a head on smash with a car fleeing the scene of a ram-raid at Montmorency.
The whole ordeal started around 5:30am when thieves rammed a gold coloured Nissan through doors of a service station at the intersection of Rattray Road and Wellington Street. It's believed they stole cigarettes while inside.
Two suspects, wearing high-vis clothing then drove away in their Nissan, which didn't have number plates. While traveling down the wrong side of Bolton Street in Eltham, they collided head on with a marked patrol car coming the other way.
The police vehicle spun around and came to a stop wedged on rocks. The car sustained extensive damage, but the two officers escaped without injury.
Anyone who witnessed this gold Nissan around Montmorency or Eltham this morning, without plates, is urged to get in touch with Crime Stoppers.
