Let’s be real, the Yarra River isn’t as clean as it should be. Most people wouldn’t even dream about swimming in it, but that could all be about to change.
Yarra Pools is a project aiming to create a space in the river where Melburnians will be able to hang out and enjoy the sunshine. The proposed plan will include shady areas, an elevated lookout and lap lanes. There will also be a food and beverage station to entice people to make a day of it.
As well as providing a place for locals and tourists to have fun, the people behind the project are hoping to create a space for people to learn about Aboriginal culture as well as contribute to improving the water quality of the Yarra River.
“Our vision is to have Melburnians talk about our river different,” said Matt Stewart of Yarra Swim Co, “To be proud of the Yarra, and to see it as an active place of nature, recreation and play.”
The Yarra Pools project is yet to get off the ground and is looking for support. If you’d like to learn more, go here.
