Man Looking At Dead Bodies Shuts Down Melbourne Train

A man looking at photos of dead bodies on his phone lead to security scare at Flinders Street Station this morning.

Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton told 3AW police were called after passengers noticed a man looking at pictures of bodies on the Frankston line train on Thursday morning.

He said passengers were on high alert following the terrorist attack in London overnight.

"We had a report, I think from the events last night and the hyper-vigilance in the community ... we had a report of someone who looking at deceased bodies on a mobile phone."

Police have interviewed and released man in question.

"It turned out to be nothing in it," he told 3AW.

"But again it was better to check. In a heightened environment this morning and people are being extra alert which is what you want," Mr Ashton said.

Up to 15 police cars were reportedly at the station and two platforms were st down. The train left Richmond Station and was stopped before it reached Flinders St Station while police boarded and conducted a security check.

Passengers reported being stuck for over 35 minutes.
