A light aircraft has crashed at Essendon Airport with five people on board.
The crash happened just after 9am this morning, with spectators suggesting the aircraft crashed soon after take-off. It appears to have crashed into a building at neighbouring Essendon DRO.
Police say the aircraft had engine problems and made mayday calls before crashing into the building. They say it is too early to confirm injuries.
Ambulance Victoria denied initial reports the aircraft was an air ambulance and said they were still working to confirm injuries.
Images on twitter show buildings on fire and smoke billowing from the outlet centre.
