Fifty Shades Darker is finally here, but what’s the verdict on the film? Does it live up to all the hype? Is it the experience we’ve all been dreaming of for the past few years?
Fifty Shades Darker premiered in Melbourne last night at an incredible red-carpet event at Crown. With a string quartet and masked models setting the scene, we knew we were in for something special. Our Bachelorette queen Georgia Love hosting the screening just capped off an absolutely epic evening.
If you’ve read all the books (including the one from Christian Grey’s perspective as all true fans should have done by now) then you know that a lot of action is packed into Fifty Shades Darker. It shows the evolution of Anastasia and Christian’s relationship as they deal with a number of different issues and events that threaten to ruin their happiness.
Oh yes, and there’s quite a lot of sex.
As a long time follower of this franchise, I can tell you that the film delivers. Us fans know what to expect, and Fifty Shades Darker is exactly what we’ve been waiting for. The relationship between Anastasia and Christian is a fantasy, and one that I’m more than happy to indulge in.
The film balances the raunchy elements of the book with some explosive relationship challenges that would rock any couple to the core. The chemistry between the two stars is electric. Without spoiling anything, the film builds to an epic conclusion that left those of us in the audience desperate for the final instalment of the series.
Dakota Johnson continues to shine as Anastasia Steele. She’s in love with Christian but she won’t be controlled by him, and Dakota infuses so much emotion into Anastasia that you can really see her struggling with some of Christian’s more ridiculous behaviour.
Jamie Dornan has settled into the role of Christian nicely, and has somehow grown even more attractive since Fifty Shades Of Grey. He’s grown a little facial hair and bulked up, and now completely embodies the tortured soul that is Christian Grey.
Grab your girlfriends, book a date with your partner on Valentine’s Day, or just honestly go alone. Fifty Shades Darker is in cinemas now.
