Big changes to Victoria's public smoking laws take effect tomorrow.
From August 1, smoking will be banned from Melbourne's footpath dining areas, pub courtyards and beer gardens when food is being served.
People who break the rules can be fined up to $777 while the business will face a whack of $7773.
But there’s exceptions: smoking will be allowed in restaurants and pubs with enough real estate to establish four-metre buffers between smokers and diners and others can erect 2.1-metre-high cafe blinds. Businesses will also risk a fine for failing to display ‘no smoking’ signs.
