Police have seized the BMW they believe was involved in a shocking hit and run at Coburg which has left a 13-year-old girl fighting for life in hospital.
Alice Lewis was knocked off her bike by the car at about 8pm on Sunday and remains critical in the Royal Children's Hospital in an induced coma.
Investigators believe the driver stopped briefly before leaving the scene and are "very close" to making an arrest.
Yesterday they located the vehicle in a laneway at North Sunshine and believe the suspect lives nearby.
She is described as of Asian appearance with shoulder length dark hair, in her early thirties, and is understood to be accompanied by an Asian male in his early thirties as well.
Detective Inspector Stuart McGregor has told Channel 7 the pair are running out of time to come forward.
"This is probably the last chance the driver has to do the right thing," he said. "This is the last chance the driver has to show some remorse."
