The future is coming at us thick and fast, and now the latest in coffee technology has hit Melbourne.

Once Alike in Collingwood are currently testing a completely manual robotic barista. It is a first for Australia, and could possibly be for the world.

“Rocky” can do all the gestures a human barista can perform and can even cater to your specific order. Liam Wilkie, one of the engineers on deck and one of the most experienced baristas in town, says the robot can make coffee as well as a human behind the counter.

As we mentioned, this machine is still in testing, so you may have to wait a few extra minutes for your coffee. If it means you can to experience it before anyone else, it is definitely worth hanging around! Plus, while in testing, the coffee is FREE!

Rocky will be in testing throughout January with a full-time service planned for early February. Find Once Alike at 28 Rokeby Street, Collingwood.  At this stage, hours are from Monday to Friday 7am-10am.
