MACKAY is a great place to live, but we need to look after it.

The Great Northern Clean Up is on this Saturday (September 1) and Sunday (September 2).

Cr Laurence Bonaventura said this was the perfect opportunity for residents to show their community pride and help keep Mackay beautiful.

“Every piece of rubbish we pick up makes our region cleaner, greener and more attractive to visitors,” he said.

“When the rubbish is gone, nature can carry on.”

Nearly 150 volunteers took part in last year’s clean-up, with 3.5 tonnes of rubbish collected.

Clean-ups will be taking place at the following council-registered sites this weekend:

Saturday, September 1

> 8am – 10am Apex Park & Plane Creek Revegetation site, Sichter Street, Sarina

> 8am – 10am Armstrong Beach, Llewellyn Hall, Armstrong Beach Road

> 8am – 10am Riverside Drive, river waterfront, Sams Road end

> 9am -11am Quota Park and Beach, at the end of Bridge Road on Binnington Esplanade

> 1pm – 4pm Northwall Beach car park, The Harbour, Edmund Casey Drive.

> 8am – 10am, East Point (recommend 4WD only), East Point Harbour

> 9am – 11am, New Mulherin Park & Harbour Beach, next to the Surf Club in New Mulherin Park on East Point Drive.
