Police have identified the young man who died in a shark attack at Cid Harbour over the weekend. Thirty three year old Doctor Daniel Christidis was holidaying with a group of medical professionals when tragedy struck. Inspector Steve O'Connell says the victim’s family has also now been found

 

Shark experts and charter operators have come out to talk about sharks in The Whitsundays. They say fish carcasses and food scraps tossed overboard from yachts are to blame for the spike in shark attacks. James Cook University shark researcher Professor Colin Simpfendorfer also saying that drumlines are only a localised and short term fix. Signs to warn off swimmers and education campaigns have been recommended to stop further attacks in the area.

With the Prime Ministers bus rolling through Queensland the opposition has moved to lay out its education plan. Candidates for Dawson and Capricornia were in Mackay to talk over their vision. It includes 47 million dollars extra in money for schools across the two electorates if they’re voted in. Senator Murry Watts says these schools have been running on very limited resources.

 

Airlie Beach Festival of music is coming up fast. The annual event set to kick off from Friday until Sunday. It will spread out over 18 venues with seventy four acts
