River Street Twilight Market

Friday, August 10, 4-8pm
Bluewater Quay, River Street
Bring a blanket and relax on your Friday night or take a walk through the Paxtons Night Markets and the River Street Twilight Market. Make sure you go on down in country fancy dress! From 5:30pm, there will be the Country HoeDown Line-Up and judges will select the best dressed costume. There will be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize - donated by Porters, Greater Whitsunday Food Network Inc and our local farmers. 


Mechanos: Wings and Wheels Mackay 2018

Artspace Mackay

Kids Art Club is Artspace Mackay’s ongoing term-based Saturday art program for kids. Run by renowned local artists, this six-week program delivers creative art for kids in two age groups. They explore and respond to the exhibitions on show at Artspace Mackay each week through fun-filled art activities. The cost is $150 per child for six weeks and includes art materials each week.

International Karate Test Match
Saturday, August 11, 6pm
MECC Plenary Hall A
The SKC branch of the Japan Karate Association JKA-SKC will host the JKA National Team of Germany for a 3 match international test series in August 2018. With only 3 locations selected to host this prestigious event nationally, the Mackay Karate Centre is honoured to be the only regional JKA-SKC branch to be afforded this opportunity.

Opera Queensland Presents Gilbert & Sullivan’s Ruddigore or the Witch’s Curse!

Lindy Hume’s critically acclaimed production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s Ruddigore or The Witch’s Curse!, is coming to the MECC in August 2018, giving Mackay audiences the opportunity to jump into the weird and wonderful world of Victoriana. 

Queensland Museum- Unearthed!
Sunday, August 12, 10am - 4pm
MECC Plenary Halls
Love STEM? Join experts and scientists from Queensland Museum and BHP to celebrate National Science Week on Sunday 12 August. Discover hands-on activities, meet Museum Palaeontologists, and come face-to-face with lost creatures of the past from a real fossil dig at South Walker Creek. This free event will feature expert talks, interactive digital tech demos, kids coding workshops and roving puppet performances.

Calling all writers and aspiring authors. Learn what it takes to write and get published with local Mackay author Sharon Johnston. What’s your PH? What IS PH? (Power of hydrogen). How does it affect our everyday lives? How does it affect the environment around us? And be prepared to spit! We’re going to test your PH as well and talk about how our own PH levels effect US! Bring in your samples! From your kitchen tap, your storm drain, your nearest estuary, creek, damn, bore, neighbours bore, we want them all.
