Today is Walk To Work Day - and we're being urged to stretch our legs to stamp out diabetes. Nearly 40,000 people in the Northern Queensland primary health network are dealing with Type 2 diabetes. As part of the pledge locals are being asked to donate $20 to diabetes Australia. Harold Scruby from the Pedestrian Council says walking to work can make you more productive, reduce stress and improve your general health.

Mining companies are being put on notice over their payment terms to Mackay businesses. The Make It 30 days campaign has been launched... pushing for local businesses to be paid within 30 days or less. Dawson MP George Christensen says some businesses are having to wait months and months to get paid.

Mackay M-P Julieanne Gilbert has welcomed new laws to protect dogs from harm. The latest State animal welfare reforms have been made to ensure the needs of breeding dogs and their pups. The laws recognise breeding dogs have specific needs and require specialised care.

A tribute show for Frank Sinatra is on at the MECC tonight.Tickets are still available to swing with the Chairman of the Board.

Mackay fitness gurus are coming together to raise money and our heart rates. Teams from Matthew Eatwell along with Muscle Garden, Evoke Fitness, Mackay Cutters and Crossfit Mackay are donating their time to put on a boot camp at B-B Print Stadium. The massive workout will run from 7 until 8 tomorrow at a cost of ten dollars for adults. Kids get in free but a gold coin is appreciated. All funds will be given to Rural Aid for drought affected farmers.

 Eimeo Beach is getting ready for a race with a difference. The first inflatable boat race will be held to coincide with the last weekend of the school holidays. Racers are encouraged to wear crazy costumes to brighten up the beach Sunday morning. Registrations will open at 8:45.
