A man has been arrested following several alleged assaults in Airlie Beach. Police allege the man went into a fast food chain on Shute Harbour Road around 2 yesterday morning verbally abusing a woman. He then allegedly began punching another man sitting inside. Fleeing on foot he was quickly found by Whitsunday Police and arrested.

A thief has shown they definitely do even lift with a heist in Andergrove. Taking off with a weighty one hundred and twenty centimetre bronze Buddha statue from a home on Blaxland Close. It's believed to have been taken over the weekend and Police are asking anyone with information to call Crimestoppers. 

 

Firefighters remain on scene at a grass fire burning in Koumala. The blaze broke out around 1 Sunday afternoon covering the Bruce Highway in thick smoke. It is currently burning within containment lines and will be monitored over the coming days. There's no threat to property however, smoke may continue to affect the area

 

Mackay’s mills have just passed the halfway point in the crush season. General Manager for Wilmar Sugar Mike McCleod says despite dry weather conditions, both areas are performing well.

 

In Plane Creek the average weekly CCS remains high at 0.78 units above budget. While Proserpine has seen the weekly average top fifteen units for the fourth consecutive week.
