Mackay businesses are doing their bit to help drought affected farmers. Joining a nationwide movement to help out struggling Aussies with some searching for formal wear to donate to Dresses for Drought, or donating money to the cause. Donut Empire on Sydney Street is asking customers to enjoy their coffee for free but instead put five dollars in the Buy a Bale tin. 

Mackay's Freckle Farm takes out the award for Best Pork in Australia. The family owned farm took away gold medals for their Pork and Bacon at the Australian Food Awards. Their pork was ranked number one overall for the gold standard quality pork nominations. They also received third overall for the gold standard quality bacon nominations

 

Mackay Christian College students are being taught First Aid for Youth Mental Health. The first school in Mackay to do this, the initiative is in partnership with Headspace. Programs like this aim to increase understanding of mental health issues and reduce the stigma within our community

 

THE SEARCH for the Story of the Year continues in MACKAY. Students will take to the stage for 3 to 7 minutes to perform a blend of movement dance and acting. Wakakirri’s Festival Director and Co-Founder Adam Loxley says students are telling stories that are important to them.The performances are being held at the MECC on Monday night.

 

THE MAGPIES are hosting Brisbane Roar this weekend. The CRUSADERS a notch below them on the ladder in 10th place.. Roar sitting 8th. Magpies head coach Carlos Garcia says the Brisbane team are A-league players. Round 23 kicks off at 7pm tomorrow night

 

Get ready for another action packed weekend of rugby union in MACKAY. The next round is getting underway tomorrow from 3:30 with three games kicking off across the region. Whitsunday takes on Kuttabul, Slade Point faces off with Mackay City and Bowen will tackle Brothers
