In the wake of near fatal shark attacks The Whitsundays have seen the introduction of temporary drum lines. Since they were set up six sharks have been killed by Queensland Fisheries staff. Whitsundays MP Jason Costigan is pushing for permanent drum lines to be brought to The Whitsundays.

 

Almost 40 students from Whitsunday Anglican School will spend the first part of their school holidays giving to the community. They'll be supporting sixteen children with special needs, alongside a team of volunteer medical professionals and school staff. Camp Coordinator Matt Hodge says the aim is to give back to the Mackay community.

 

Eyes R Us is calling on Mackay to Recycle for Sight. The project collects specs for developing regions like Africa, Sri Lanka, and the South Pacific. Drop in before World Sight Day on October 11 to take part.

A local Proserpine resident has taken out the Sprint Triathlon Event. Kasey Hogan was a contender in the weekend's Mackay Triathlon Festival which attracted over three hundred athletes to the area. She said she was extremely proud to have finally passed her closest competition to secure the win.

A Brother and Sister duo are blowing the competition out of the water in Brisbane. Mackay siblings Connor and Sharlett Burrows both ranked in the top 10 at the Brisbane Open Water Race over the weekend. Connor swam his 5km race in just under an hour and six minutes landing him 7th place. Sharlett landed in 5th place for her 1.25km swim in just under 20 minutes
